China believes that the boundary issue is very sensitive and it is important for both countries.

China in a very serious trade war with the US, China does not want to delay much anymore with its biggest neighbor, India, on the old complicated matters. In the bilateral meeting between India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Xinping in October 2019, there will be a lot of emphasis from China on the early resolution of the border dispute. The meeting will take place in India itself and possibly in Varanasi in PM Modi’s parliamentary constituency. Discussions are going on between the two sides in this regard.

During a discussion with a team of journalists from India, a senior official of China’s Foreign Ministry gave clear indication that the border dispute between the two countries is very long but it is not that it cannot be resolved. Officials here also believe that the boundary issue is very sensitive and it is very important for both countries. But if both countries agree to respect each other’s side a little by mutual consent, then there will be no delay in resolving the border dispute.

Special arrangements were made earlier also
It goes on to say that during the historic visit of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to China in 2003, a special arrangement was made to resolve the border dispute. Under this, a round of negotiations was started under the chairmanship of the National Security Advisers of both the countries. Till now under this arrangement, talks are being held twice every year.

Recently, during the visit of Foreign Secretary of India S Jaishankar to China, Foreign Minister Wang Yi had given the impression that both countries have moved towards resolving the border dispute. Diplomats know about his announcement that India has been given a new proposal from China on the border dispute.

In October, PM Modi-Xi Shinfing will meet
It is believed that when the heads of both the countries meet face to face in October, they will discuss this proposal further. Chinese diplomat says that when India can find a permanent solution to such an old and sensitive border dispute with another neighboring country Bangladesh, then why not with China.

India and China have a border of about 3500 km and there are at least four such places which cause tension. One of these sites is Doklam, located near the Indo-China-Bhutan border, where in 2017 the armies of both countries came face to face.

There is a lot of peace on the border since last meeting
China favors that until such time as the international border is demarcated properly, such disputes will not take place, it cannot be guaranteed. After meeting in Wuhan (China) between Modi and Shinfig in April 2018, there is relatively much peace on the border. Both leaders had instructed their forces to take additional steps to maintain peace along the border.
